PLATING, KARAOKE, AND DRUG DEALS
I’m kidding about the last part. More on that later.
The past two days have been super busy. Wednesday night we started plating our experiments at 11pm. Finished Thursday morning at 8:15am. We worked non-stop the entire 9 hours, and everything went really well.
Afterwards, I did laundry (washer still doesn’t spin down so I had to hang my clothes outside to dry), and then slept for like 6 hours.
Dr. Okayasu and Misumura-san took us to dinner at a great little Japanese bar restaurant. The food was amazing…we had dumplings, chicken, crab legs, sushi. SO MUCH GOOD FOOD!
Afterwards, we met up with Dr. Fujimori, Dr. Allen, Neelam, & Jenny to go KARAOKE! I am not a singer by any means, but we all had a great time and got to drink some good Japanese (alcoholic) drinks. There was also a soft-serve ice cream bar and soft-drink bar, which I took advantage of. We spent 5 hours at the Karaoke place, until they kicked us out at midnight (is you spend more than 5 hours there, you have to pay extra - they’re open until 6am). Our room was huge and I am very grateful to Dr. Okayasu and Dr. Fujimori for hosting us!
Went to breakfast in the Taka cafe in the cell culture building. I am obsessed with Japanese bread. So much better! Then those of us that came later got our payment from NIRS. It felt like we were doing a drug deal because we got an envelope with almost ¥200,000 (about $2500).
Now I just have to work on my secondaries, take a nap, and then we have an IOL Party tonight!
I will post a video from Karaoke soon. =) Added some new pictures to Picasa as well, check them out.
PS. Mom, that top picture is for you. SEE! I got VEGETABLES! And Coke.
